Legal Information

This legal information page belongs to CrimZo.info, a South African online publication that reports on celebrity culture, entertainment, film, television, music, awards, streaming and the wider popular-culture industry. It explains who operates this website, how the operating company is registered, where it is established, how it can be reached, and the rules that apply both to the content we publish and to your use of the site. Last updated: 2 November 2026.

1. The operator of this website and the role it plays

CrimZo.info is published and operated by Media24 (Pty) Ltd, a private company incorporated with limited liability in the Republic of South Africa in terms of the Companies Act 71 of 2008. Throughout this notice the words "the operator", "we", "us" and "our" refer to that company, while "CrimZo.info" refers to this website, its newsletter editions and the editorial publication carried on them.

The operator is the party that decides what is published here, which stories are commissioned, how advertising is sold and how personal information is used. That single fact carries several legal consequences. The operator is the "supplier" for the purposes of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (ECTA), the "responsible party" for the purposes of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA), and the publisher against which any complaint about editorial content should be brought.

Our editorial role

We report on celebrities, artists, performers, broadcasters, production companies, streaming services, award ceremonies and the business of entertainment in South Africa and abroad. Reporting on a person, brand or event is not an endorsement of that person, brand or event, and appearing on this website does not mean that the person concerned has any commercial relationship with us.

What we are not

Unless we state otherwise in writing, we are not the agent, manager, publicist, lawyer or representative of any celebrity, artist or company mentioned on this website. We cannot forward messages, requests, gifts, manuscripts or business proposals to the people we write about, and we cannot act on their behalf in any negotiation or dispute.

2. Company registration, tax and statutory particulars

The following particulars are published in fulfilment of section 32 of the Companies Act 71 of 2008, which requires a company's name and registration number to appear on all its notices, publications and websites, and in fulfilment of section 43 of ECTA, which requires an electronic supplier to make its identity, legal form, address, registration details and dispute-resolution information easily accessible to users.

  • Full name and legal form: Media24 (Pty) Ltd, a private company with limited liability
  • Company registration number: 1950/038385/07
  • Place of registration: Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC), Republic of South Africa
  • Country of incorporation: South Africa
  • Registered office and principal place of business: 26 Old Main Road, Hillcrest, Durban, 3610, South Africa
  • Electronic contact: [email protected]
  • Value-added tax: the operator is registered as a vendor for value-added tax in South Africa, and its VAT registration number is printed on every tax invoice issued to subscribers, advertisers and other customers
  • Information Officer for POPIA and PAIA: appointed and contactable at [email protected], marked for the attention of the Information Officer

Why these particulars are published

South African law does not treat a website as an anonymous shopfront. A company that trades electronically must be identifiable, must be reachable and must tell users which legal entity stands behind the site. Publication of the particulars above is intended to give readers, advertisers, complainants and regulators a single, reliable route to the responsible legal person, and to make it possible to serve legal documents on that person.

Information Officer and the PAIA manual

The operator has appointed an Information Officer who is responsible for compliance with POPIA and for dealing with requests made under the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA). A PAIA manual describing the records held by the operator and the procedure for requesting access is available on request from the Information Officer at [email protected]. Requests must be made in the prescribed form, must identify the record sought with reasonable specificity, and may attract the prescribed request and access fees.

Industry codes and self-regulation

Our editorial content is subject to the Press Code of the Press Council of South Africa, and readers may complain about a story to the Press Council if they believe the Code has been breached. Our commercial and advertising activity is subject to the code of the Advertising Regulatory Board. We do not subscribe to a separate self-regulatory code of conduct for electronic commerce, and we are not a member of any accreditation scheme that obliges us to submit to binding consumer arbitration, save where the law requires it.

3. Registered office and how to reach us

The operator's registered office and principal place of business is at 26 Old Main Road, Hillcrest, Durban, 3610, South Africa. This is the address at which legal documents may be served and at which posted correspondence will be received.

All enquiries, requests and complaints may be sent by email to [email protected]. Editorial, commercial, subscription and data-protection matters are handled by different teams, so please make the subject line of your message clear, for example "Editorial correction", "Privacy request", "Advertising enquiry" or "Subscription query". Marking the subject line correctly is the fastest way to have a message routed to the person who can answer it.

Editorial corrections and complaints

If you believe something we published is factually wrong, unfairly prejudicial or in breach of the Press Code, email [email protected] with the headline of the article, the date on which it was published and a short explanation of what you say is wrong. We aim to acknowledge corrections within a reasonable time and to publish a correction where one is warranted, without requiring you to waive any right you may have.

Privacy and data-subject requests

Requests to access, correct or delete personal information, objections to processing and questions about this website's privacy practices should be addressed to the Information Officer at [email protected]. We respond within the periods set by POPIA, and we may ask you to verify your identity before we act on a request so that we do not disclose information to the wrong person.

4. Purpose, scope and intended audience

CrimZo.info exists to inform and entertain readers who are interested in celebrity culture, entertainment and the creative industries, principally in South Africa. The website carries news reporting, interviews, opinion, reviews, photo galleries, video, podcast episodes, newsletters and advertising. It is a commercial publication: it earns revenue from advertising, sponsored content, affiliate arrangements and paid subscriptions, and those arrangements are described in more detail below.

The website is intended for a general audience. Some material deals with adult themes, strong language, legal disputes or distressing events, and some galleries contain images that parents may not wish younger readers to see. The site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children without the consent of a competent person, as POPIA requires.

Editorial independence and advertising

Advertising, advertorials and sponsored features are labelled as such. Advertisers do not see editorial copy before publication and do not acquire a right to approve, amend or suppress it. Where we publish a paid partnership, the label appears on the item itself rather than buried in a separate page, so that readers can tell commercial content from journalism.

User participation

Where comments, polls or reader submissions are open, you are a guest in a public space. Contributions must be civil, must not defame or harass anyone, and must not infringe another person's copyright or privacy. We moderate, edit for length and clarity, and remove contributions that breach these rules, and we may close comments on a story at any time.

5. Access to the website and acceptable use

Access

Access to the public areas of the website is free of charge, apart from the cost of your own internet connection and any data charges levied by your service provider. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site, introduce registration or paywall requirements, or restrict access from certain countries or networks, without notice. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability and we are not liable for losses caused by downtime, although we try to keep planned maintenance short and to warn readers where we can.

Permitted use

You may read, view and listen to the content for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may quote a headline and a short extract in a review, comment, classroom discussion or social media post, provided the source is clearly attributed to CrimZo.info and the quotation is no longer than is fair and reasonable for the purpose.

Prohibited conduct

  • Copying, scraping, harvesting or bulk-downloading content, whether manually or with automated tools, bots or crawlers
  • Republishing, syndicating, reselling or redistributing our content, in whole or in part, without written permission
  • Removing, obscuring or altering watermarks, bylines, copyright notices or advertising
  • Using the site to harass, threaten, defame or unlawfully discriminate against any person, including the people we write about
  • Uploading malicious code, attempting to gain unauthorised access to our systems, or interfering with the security or performance of the site
  • Presenting user-generated content as our editorial output, or impersonating a journalist, editor or employee of the operator
  • Using the site for any purpose that is unlawful under South African law, including the Cybercrimes Act 19 of 2020

Consequences of misuse

If we detect misuse we may block your internet protocol address, suspend or terminate any account you hold, remove content you have submitted, and pursue recovery of our losses. Where the conduct appears to be criminal we may report it to the South African Police Service or to the relevant regulator, and we will cooperate with lawful investigations.

6. Intellectual property, copyright and trademarks

All material on this website — articles, headlines, photographs, illustrations, video, audio, page design, data compilations and the software that runs the site — is protected by copyright under the Copyright Act 98 of 1978 and by other laws, and is owned by the operator or licensed to it. The names, logos and marks CrimZo.info and associated titles are trade marks of the operator or its licensors and may not be used in a way that suggests sponsorship, endorsement or affiliation that does not exist.

What you may do

You may share the headline of an article and a brief description, quote short passages for fair dealing purposes such as reporting, criticism, review or teaching, and print a single copy of an article for your own private study.

What you may not do

You may not reproduce substantial parts of an article on another website, in a newsletter, in a book or in a commercial publication; you may not use our photographs, galleries or video in any medium without a licence; you may not frame the site so that it appears inside another website; and you may not copy content in bulk for the purpose of building a database, training a machine-learning model or feeding a content aggregator. Any rights not expressly granted here are reserved.

Third-party and syndicated material

Some material is supplied by news agencies, photographers, freelancers, publicists or other publishers and appears under licence. Copyright in that material rests with its owner, and re-use may require their permission as well as ours.

Reporting infringement

If you own copyright in material that appears on this website and you believe it has been used without permission, email [email protected] with your name and capacity, details of the work, the address of the page concerned, and a statement that you own the rights or are authorised to act for the owner. We investigate every substantiated notice and will remove or credit material where that is appropriate.

7. Accuracy, availability and limits of liability

Accuracy and corrections

We work to professional reporting standards and we correct errors when they are pointed out to us. Even so, entertainment reporting moves quickly and some details — relationships, casting, release dates, commercial deals — change after publication. Content is published as at the date shown on the article and should be read in that light. Nothing on the website is a warranty of fact to any third party.

No professional advice

Articles about legal disputes, health, money or careers are journalism, not legal, medical or financial advice. You should consult a qualified professional before acting on anything you read here.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by South African law, the operator is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, reputation or data, arising from your use of the website or your reliance on its content. We are not responsible for content on websites we do not control, even where we link to them or embed material from them. Nothing in this notice excludes or limits liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury, or any liability that the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 prohibits us from excluding.

Indemnity

If you submit content to us and that content infringes another person's rights or gives rise to a claim against the operator, you agree to indemnify the operator against the reasonable costs and damages it incurs as a result.

8. External links, embedded content and third-party services

Articles frequently point to the websites of celebrities, studios, broadcasters, festivals, ticket sellers and other publications, and may embed posts and videos from social platforms. Those destinations operate under their own terms and privacy notices, and we do not control them. A link is provided for the reader's convenience and is not an endorsement of the destination, its products or its reliability.

Embedded posts from social platforms load content from servers outside our control, and those platforms may set cookies or collect information about you when you view the embedding page. Details are set out in our Cookie Policy.

Advertising and sponsored content

Advertisement space on the website is sold directly and through advertising networks. The advertiser is responsible for the accuracy of its claims and for the legality of its offer; complaints about an advertisement can be sent to us at [email protected] or raised with the Advertising Regulatory Board. Affiliate links, where a retailer pays us a commission on sales, are disclosed in the article that contains them.

9. Personal information, cookies and related policies

This page deals with commercial and legal identity. The processing of personal information is described in our separate policies, which form part of the terms governing this website and should be read together with this notice: the Privacy Policy, the Cookie Policy, the Terms and Conditions and the Payment and Refund Policy. Each of those policies is available from the main navigation of the site and is written in plain language.

Personal information we handle

We collect the information you give us when you subscribe to a newsletter, enter a competition, post a comment or contact the newsroom, and limited technical information generated when you browse. We use it to deliver the service you asked for, to understand which stories are read, to carry out competitions, to prevent abuse and to meet our legal obligations. We do not sell personal information to third parties.

Cookies and consent

The site uses a cookie banner to record your choices. Essential cookies keep the site secure and functional; analytics and advertising cookies are used only where the applicable rules permit them and, where consent is required, only after you have agreed. You can change your choice at any time by reopening the banner or by clearing cookies in your browser, and the Cookie Policy explains how to withdraw consent and how long each cookie lasts.

Direct marketing

Newsletter subscriptions are made by opt-in. Every marketing message contains a working unsubscribe route, and unsubscribing is free. We keep a record of your preference so that you are not contacted again after you have objected, as section 69 of POPIA requires.

10. Subscriptions, purchases and refunds

Where the website offers a paid subscription, a digital issue, a ticket or a physical product, prices are quoted in South African rand and include value-added tax where the law requires it. Card payments are processed by a third-party payment provider over an encrypted connection; we do not see or store your full card number.

If something goes wrong with a purchase — a payment taken twice, a digital issue that does not open, a delivery that never arrives — email [email protected] and we will investigate. Where South African law gives you a cooling-off right, for example the seven-day right of cancellation in section 44 of ECTA for electronic transactions, or the cancellation right in the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 for transactions concluded as a result of direct marketing, our Payment and Refund Policy explains how to exercise it. Where you have expressly asked for immediate delivery of digital content and have acknowledged that the cancellation right is lost once download begins, that acknowledgement is recorded at checkout.

11. Applicable law, courts and dispute resolution

This website, the policies published on it and any separate agreement you conclude with the operator are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa. Disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts, subject to the right of a consumer to approach any court or tribunal that has jurisdiction under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.

Your consumer rights

The Consumer Protection Act gives consumers in South Africa specific rights in respect of goods and services, including the right to fair, honest and reasonable dealing, the right to information in plain language, and rights of complaint and redress. Nothing in this notice is intended to limit those rights, and any provision that would do so is to be read down accordingly.

How to raise a dispute

Please contact us first at [email protected], giving an outline of the problem and what outcome you want. We aim to respond to complaints within ten business days. If we cannot resolve the matter between us, you may refer it to the National Consumer Commission, to the relevant ombud with jurisdiction over the service, or to the Press Council of South Africa where the complaint concerns editorial content rather than a transaction. We will not treat a complaint as the end of the relationship and we will continue to deal with you in good faith while the process continues.

12. Changes to this notice and the last-updated date

We review this page when our corporate details, our policies or the law change. The date at the top of the page always reflects the latest version, and earlier versions can be requested from the Information Officer at [email protected]. Where a change materially affects your rights we will give notice on the website before it takes effect, and where the law requires your consent to a change we will ask for it rather than assume it. Continued use of the website after a change takes effect means that the updated notice applies to your use from that point onwards.
